Scott Smith, Sun City West, Ariz., formally of Leeds, ND, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on April 12, 2018. A memorial celebration of Scott’s life will be held on Sunday, May 6 at the Roger Kenner sale barn from noon to 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend and share with us some of Scott’s stories and photos and celebrate his life. Lunch and refreshments will be served. Michael Scott Smith was born April 6, 1952, in Devils Lake, ND, to Robert and Vivian Smith. Scott attended Leeds Public School and graduated in 1970. He attended college in Wahpeton then enlisted in the Marines in 1972. He moved to Calif. in 1979, where he worked as a building engineer in the Bay Area of San Francisco, CA, until his retirement in 2015. There he met the love of his live, his wife Marie Bakanus. After retiring in 2015. They moved to Sun City West. Scott loved hunting, fishing, golfing and cooking for his friends and family. Scott won the North Dakota State Trapshooting Handicap Championship in 1968 at the age of 16. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; brother, Steve and sister, Lee. He is survived by his wife, Marie from Sun City West; and step-daughter, Maria CA; mother, Vivian, Devils Lake; brothers, Tom (Kim), Albertville, AL, Kevin (Val), Devils Lake; sisters, Karen (Ned) Mitzel, Maddock, ND, Lynn (Richard) Magney, Spokane, WA, Mary (David) Engstrom, Vancouver, WA and many nieces and nephews.
