Charlotte Ethelyn Brown (née Pepple), of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at the age of 72. Charlotte was born to parents Elzie and Ethelyn Pepple on Dec. 17, 1945, in Houston, Texas. She grew up as the eldest of three and graduated from Wessington Springs High School, South Dakota. In 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Brown. They moved several times in order to attend various schools in pursuit of their respective degrees. In 1968, Charlotte graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. To their great joy, son Timothy arrived in 1971 and daughter Stacie in 1975. Charlotte loved teaching and returned to school earning her Master of Arts in Education in 1999. This allowed her to pursue another passion in education, which was mentoring other teachers. Cooking, especially for friends and family, was something she greatly enjoyed and her family dinners were a cornerstone of her family’s lives. She was an organizing and decorating guru and always kept a beautiful home. Seeing and helping others came as second nature to her. She was gifted with the ability to see or anticipate the needs of others, often before others knew that the needs existed. Charlotte always cherished the time she had with her family, including her children and their spouses, her sister and brother and their spouses, and her nieces and nephews. She especially loved spending time with her five grandchildren in any way she could. She would bathe the small ones, bake with the older ones, read with them, or just hold them. The church community was extremely important to Charlotte throughout her life. She was a member of Desert Spring United Methodist Church in Las Vegas and served in many capacities over the years, culminating in the chairmanship of the Missions Committee. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Rev. Wayne Darel Brown; her son, Timothy Scott (Dawn) Brown; her daughter, Stacie Jo (James) Mahoney; her sister, Ruth (Harley) Reile and brother, Daniel (Carol) Pepple; sister-in- law, Yvonne (Erwin) Kiemele; and beloved grandchildren, Timothy, Tayleigh, Olivia, Elizabeth and Ashley. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and one maternal uncle, Edward (Mary Ann) Coombs, and numerous cousins. Her parents, Elzie and Ethelyn, precede her in death. The family is grateful for the condolences, and requests memorials to the church to be designated at a later date.
