Thelma Olena Roles, 100, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Calio, ND, quietly departed this life on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.
Thelma Olena Roles, 100, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Calio, ND, quietly departed this life on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Lutheran Church in Egeland, ND, with Pastor Rob Buechler officiating. Special music will be provided by Tom and Claudia Nickolaisen. Honorary Urn Bearers will be all of her grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Egeland at a later date. Thelma was the daughter of the late Olaf Ness and Thilda (Finneseth) Ness and was born October 25, 1917, in Calio. She attended the public school at Calio and graduated in 1935. Thelma was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of Lakeview Lutheran Church in Egeland, where she served as Treasurer of the Church. Thelma was united in marriage to Leonard Roles on November 29, 1944, in Calio. This union was blessed with five children. Thelma was an active member of the Ladies Aide Society in Egeland and was a cook at the Egeland School from 1963 to 1974. She was also a 4-H Leader. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Roger Roles of the Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND, David (Marcia) Roles of Spokane, Washington, Gerald (Laura) Roles of Lake City, Minnesota and Barbara (Dawayne) Nelsen of Cando, ND; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces and nephews. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard in March of 1990; her infant daughter, Gladys Mae in March of 1949; and her sister, Myrtle Swank in 2009.
