The Devils Lake JV girls basketball team left no doubts at the Lake Region Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Devils Lake Sports Center to earn the tournament championship.

The Devils Lake JV girls basketball team left no doubts at the Lake Region Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Devils Lake Sports Center to earn the tournament championship.

All three rounds of the tournament, the Firebirds overwhelmed their opponents with aggressiveness and athleticism. The squad defeated Carrington JV 63-43 in first round, Dunseith 52-34 in the semifinals and Four-Winds/Minnewaukan 73-49 in the championship.
The key to success on title night was a fast start. Devils Lake jumped out to a 15-6 lead after one and a 41-18 advantage at the half. Behind hot shooting, Four Winds-Minnewaukan battled back in the second half outscoring the Firebirds in the third. Devils Lake, however, ran away with the 73-49 victory.

Jailyn Martinson led the way with 21 points. Abby Heilman added 20 points while Ramsey Brown also netted double figures with 17.
Latasha Bellile finished with 14 points to lead Four Winds-Minnewaukan. Riah Littleghost added 10 points for the Lady Indians.

North Star 58 Dunseith 32
A fast start and a better finish were keys to victory for North Star to earn third place in the Lake Region Invitational. The Bearcats led 18-9 after one, 27-15 at the half and 38-26 going into the fourth before earning the 58-32 victory over the Dragons of Dunseith.
Stephanie Miller had a game-high 25 points. Mya Halverson chipped in with 12 points.
Lexius Davis finished with a team-high 15 points for Dunseith.

Carrington JV 53 Dakota Prairie 32
A gigantic third quarter helped Carrington JV pick up a win in the fifth-place contest of the Lake Region Invitational. The Cardinals outscored Dakota Prairie 15-2 in the stanza to ultimately earn the 53-32 win.
Addison Hoonaert led the Cardinals with 11 points.
Carly Lippert had a game-high 13 points for the Knights.

Benson County 41 Lakota 30
Key baskets down the stretch helped Benson County pick up its first win of the season Saturday. The Wildcats defeated Lakota 41-30 in the third-place matchup in the Lake Region Invitational.
Senior Dani Schwanke had a huge night scoring 28 points to lead Benson County.
Stephanie Bartlett was the only player to hit double figures for Lakota with 10 points.
