When most of us are at home watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on television, quite a number  of folks from the community will be busy getting ready for the Kiwanis Thanksgiving Dinner.

These dedicated volunteers give up their own Thanksgiving celebrations at home with their families in order to give a Thanksgiving feast to the entire community.

Thanksgiving dinner
This year’s Thanksgiving dinner, coming up Nov. 23, will include the meat from over 20 turkeys complete with mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, a vegetable, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, pickles and olives plus home-made pies for dessert.
You can come to the Devils Lake Senior Center, located at 202 4th Ave. NE, and enjoy this hearty meal with neighbors and friends or have your meal home delivered. If you want a home delivered meal, however, they need to know in advance, so please call the Senior Center, 662-5061, by 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20.

It is a good idea to call if you are planning to eat in the dining room, too, so they know how many to expect. But no one will be turned away.

They dish up the meals to be delivered at 11 a.m. and begin serving at the Senior Center at 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., or the last person is fed, whichever comes first.
Individuals, couples and families are all welcome to attend.

Kiwanis volunteers will be sitting at the door greeting you as you arrive, if you would like to give an offering to help pay for the meal.  Those volunteers will be serving the meal, doing dishes in the kitchen, setting the tables and maybe even providing some musical entertainment as you dine.

Kiwanis member Deanna Anderson has been the one in charge of the Thanksgiving dinner for the last few years, she says if there’s anyone who would like to provide some sort of musical entertainment for this special meal, “that would be great!”  please call her at her shop, the Devils Lake Greenhouse 662-4989.

She also said volunteers are also welcome to help with serving the dinner, serving pie, setting up the tables and place settings plus the clean-up afterwards.
