In the early morning hours on May 19, 2017, at 87 years of age, Evelyn Mae Peterson (Gummeringer), peacefully in her sleep went to heaven to join those who preceded her in death, including her Mother, Mary Olive Peterson (Keck) and Father Andrew Peterson, as well as her Son, Cpt. Lynn H. Gummeringer; Daughter Lynne Dorian Gummeringer; grandson, Jonathan Gummeringer; sisters, Emma Tetrault, Della Smagge, Mabel Steffan; and brother, Leonard Peterson. She left behind a legacy of generosity and kind heartedness that is rarely seen in today’s world. She donated to endless charities and was always there for those in need of a helping hand. The memories are endless with those who were close with Evelyn over her lifetime and anyone who was lucky enough to have known her will be left with a void. Those memories will be cherished forever as her soul will always live on in our hearts. She leaves behind a loving family that was with her until the end, including her children, twins Karen Munz and Kenneth Gummeringer of Tacoma, as well as her youngest, Linda Klovas of Graham. Evelyn has 13 grandchildren in addition to multiple great-grandchildren. We now celebrate what she gave to us all while she was here on earth and what she now gets to share for eternity with God in heaven. Evelyn was born in Devils Lake, ND, in Ramsey County on July 1, 1929. After graduating high school she made Tacoma her home for over 65 years until her passing. Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper and legal secretary before beginning her career with the Pierce County Court System as the FIRST female bailiff in Pierce County. She then continued her education once again and became a court reporter, working with Judge E. Albert Morrison and also Judge Frederick Fleming before retiring. Her retirement years were spent with her family. Considered to be Elvis Presley’s #1 fan and secret admirer, 2017 will be the first year of our lives that we will be having a “Blue Christmas.” A celebration of her life will be planned by the family and will be privately communicated at a date to be announced. Any remembrance is gladly accepted, and can be mailed to: Evelyn Peterson RIP, c/o Linda Klovas, 6813 251st Street Ct. E., Graham, WA 98338.
