Ron’s Hunting Team comes back to area year after year, after year . . .

After spending time hunting in the fierce, cold wind in the early hours of Thursday, Oct. 26 Ron’s Hunting Team was glad to retire to the garage at Ron Lang’s home on 11th Street Southeast in Devils Lake. Something warm and delicious smelling was simmering in the crock pot as the hunters warmed up indoors, sheltered from the wind.

The walls and ceiling of Lang’s “hunter’s cave” are filled with decoys, photos of the hunters taken through the years and reminders of past visits.
For the Mullers there are three generations of hunters in this group. For the Lindbergs it’s four generations.

These folks are all related to one another, in one way or another, and all of them are related to Lang, a semi-retired former employee of the city. What we have here is a family reunion “outdoorsmen’s style.”

Ron’s Hunting Team is what they call themselves and they have been coming back to Devils Lake two to three times a year, every year for 30 years, for the older members of the group.
In January they come for the big Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Tournament. Each July they come for a week’s fishing in warmer weather. Then every October they come to hunt.

The group arrived on Saturday, Oct. 21 and plans to continue to hunt in the area the remainder of the week, packing up for the more than six and a half-hour trip home on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Their homes are in Coon Rapids, Ramsey, Andover and Rochester, Minn.
“The trip home always seems so much longer,” Charlie Lindberg said, “Coming here we are anticipating the hunt and excited to see Ron and Karen, that part of the trip goes much quicker.”
He said they wanted to make sure to thank all the area farmers who let them hunt on their land.
“That means a lot to us,” he said.

“We have been fortunate every time we’ve come. There are so many nice people in the area. We love coming back year after year.”
That’s not likely to change anytime soon.
