Grace Huss, 90, Alexandria, MN, formerly of Sykeston, ND, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, surrounded by family, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Sykeston with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service and rosary at the church. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden. Grace Baumann, daughter of Lewis and Sadie (Jean Blanc) Baumann, was born August 1, 1927, in Wahpeton, ND. She graduated from Fessenden High School in 1946. Grace was the mother of eight children, and worked as a telephone operator, bookkeeper, bank teller, operator/owner of Sykeston Recreation, Hiawatha Dairy Inn and Canal Bar and was an Avon Representative. She was also a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, local Homemakers and served as Police Magistrate for the city of Sykeston. Grace was famous for her homemade brownies, her donuts and her welcoming smile. Grace was married to Bernard Huss on June 3, 1947, in Fessenden, ND. They briefly resided in Bowdon, ND and Harvey, ND, until 1949 when they moved to Sykeston where they made their home until 2005. They then lived in Devils Lake, ND, before moving to Alexandria, MN. She is survived by six children, Connie (Marlin) Haluska of McAllen, TX, Bernie (Bea) Huss Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL, Kevin (Debbie) Huss of Appleton, WI, Nancy (Marty) Koenig of Jamestown, ND, Michelle (Lee) Moen of Ballwin, MO and Greg (Tammy) Huss of Alexandria, MN; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carol (David) Huss of Green Bay, WI. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; her twin sons, John and Joseph; two brothers, Lewis and Donald Baumann; and one sister, Clemence Mertz.
