The 7th annual Lake Region Suicide Prevention 5k walk/run was held Saturday Sept. 9, at Ruger Park in Devils Lake.

Registration for the event began at 9 a.m. Followed by speakers sharing their personal stories. The walk/run began at 10 a.m.

Participants were encouraged to decorate t-shirts and pickets to serve as memorials and encouragement.  As they walk the running path, beginning at the park, stretching along College Drive, and ending back at Ruger Park, they help bring awareness to the community that help is out there.

The Lake Region Suicide Prevention Committee is a group of non-profit volunteers dedicated to preventing suicide in Lake Region and surrounding communities. Most funding comes from registration from events like Saturday’s. They use funds to purchase billboards and other print media to connect families and individuals in need of support, to offer them guidance and information about local and national resources for help.
