The Devils Lake School Board congratulated the district’s teacher of the Year, Marla Leuhring at Monday’s meeting. Leuhring is a nurse who teaches the health careers classes at the Lake Area Career and Technical Center. She received the honor in May, but was unable to attend the school board meeting that followed the announcement. This was the board’s opportunity to congratulate her for the award.
Superintendent Scott Privratsky went through a list of all the new employees for the school district, 37 in all departments, for the new school year.
He also pointed out the long list of improvements, repairs and projects completed by the summer maintenance workers. Only a couple of items on the list have yet to be completed: the concession stand and the CMS lift.
Privratsky pointed out that the enrollment numbers for the school year are starting out very strong with 684 at the elementary level, 542 at the middle school and 486 at the high school, which includes the alternative high school, for a total of 1,712. Last year ended with 1,682, therefore the superintendent is optimistic that although the numbers may change a bit, they should stay pretty close to what they had last year.
To date there are 151 students coming into the district from outside due to tuition waivers.
