Matthew Little faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
A man who has been in custody since his arrest on two counts of attempted murder appeared in Ramsey County District Court Thursday.
Matthew Little, 48, is accused of sending two men to the hospital in what authorities believe was a botched drug transaction at Cando Villa Apartments in Towner County. One of the victims, Curtis Henry, told police that he attempted to intervene in a fight between Little and another man, Chris Lancaster, when he was allegedly assaulted by Little.
Henry suffered a skull fracture, among several other injuries, and told police that he was beaten with an “object,” according to the complaint filed against Little. Lancaster reportedly suffered bleeding in his brain after the attack and was flown to Grand Forks for treatment.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, Little faces several other felony counts. One is for felony burglary in connection with the alleged theft of hamburger and eggs from a third man, Terry Smith, who also lived in the Cando Villa complex.
Another felony burglary charge also involves hamburger, this allegedly swiped from Lancaster’s apartment, along with toilet paper, movies and other items.
Little faces two felony robbery charges as well. The state alleges that he stole a cell phone and a credit card from Lancaster after administering the beating that sent Lancaster to the hospital. Another robbery charge alleges that he stole a credit card and prepaid debit card from Henry after beating him.
According to the complaint, Little is also charged with felony criminal trespass for allegedly hiding in a fourth man’s apartment without permission in order to hide from law enforcement.
A trial date was set for Nov. 14, while a pretrial conference was set for Oct. 31.
Little remains incarcerated at the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center pending the outcome of the case. He has prior convictions for misdemeanor assault, providing false information to a police officer and felony preventing arrest.
