There is nothing better than getting together with old friends and this weekend there will be plenty of opportunity to do just that at the annual Churchs Ferry Days AND the Stump Lake Polka Fest, two fantastic events happening this weekend.

There is nothing better than getting together with old friends and this weekend there will be plenty of opportunity to do just that at the annual Churchs Ferry Days AND the Stump Lake Polka Fest, two fantastic events happening this weekend.

Churchs Ferry Days

Though little remains of the once thriving community of Churchs Ferry, thanks to the rising waters of Devils Lake, faithful former residents and alumni gather annually for two days each year on the fourth Friday and Saturday of June.
June 23, Friday evening, the festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and appetizers at the Devils Lake Elks Lodge No. 1216, U.S. Highway Two West. At 6 p.m. a meal will be available as Churchs Ferry alumni and friends gather to visit and reminisce. At last year’s social there were more than 60 people attending.
Saturday, June 24 the festivities move to Churchs Ferry and the Alumni Center.
First a lunch will be served for the public at the Alumni Center, the former grocery store, bar and fire department building.
At 1 p.m. for those who have a N.D. Fishing license, fishing will be available on Lake Irvine. Licenses are available at many different sites in Devils Lake if you need one.
Starting at 2 p.m. alumni are asked to bring their old pictures or items to view and share. Make sure to mark each item so you can get them back unless you would like to donate them to the Churchs Ferry Alumni Museum.
Also at 2 p.m. there will be demonstrations and crafts and the Alumni Museum will be open.
At 3 p.m. there will be bingo, card playing, horseshoes, darts and time for visiting and reminiscing.
A catered roast pork and baked potato community supper is available for purchase starting at 5 p.m. followed by the program, comments from classes and door prizes.
This year’s honored classes are 1947, 1957, 1967, 1977 and 1987 but everyone is welcome to attend. Following the program there will be drawings for raffle tickets and more visiting.
Stop in and see what’s been done to the Alumni Center, a lot of work has already been done, but more repairs are needed. Donations to help fund repairs are always welcome, too.
The Alumni Center has running water, functional bathrooms, no steps and tables to enjoy outside.
