According to Fire Chief Jim Moe, volunteers who had provided this event for many years would no longer be available this year.

This year there will be no fireworks display at dusk on the Fourth of July in Devils Lake.

Fire Chief Jim Moe said he’d informed the Devils Lake City Commission months ago that the volunteers who had provided this event for many years would no longer be available this year.

“It’s a big job,” Moe said, “it takes a crew of about eight to 10 guys all day on the Fourth, not to mention all the fundraising, planning and preparation that has to happen in the months leading up to July.”

According to Moe approximately $10,000 is normally raised to pay for the city-wide display, but not this year.

It is too late for this year, he says, but if a group wants to take it on in the future, the Fire Department would help with the training, preparation and production.
