Tanner Nikolaos de la Paz, “ Itate Ob Omani Hoksina” (Walks with the Wind Boy) 4 year old, precious son of Antionette Nelson, began his journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Devils Lake Hospital.
Tanner Nikolaos de la Paz, “ Itate Ob Omani Hoksina” (Walks with the Wind Boy) 4 year old, precious son of Antionette Nelson, began his journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Devils Lake Hospital. A Wake for Tanner will be held on Tuesday, April 18, at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael, ND, beginning at 5 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4 p.m. on Tuesday from City Plaza. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 19 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Tanner will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Spirit Lake Singers Drum Group and other Drum Groups are welcome. Casket Bearers will be Tanner’s uncle Chris Nelson Jr. and great-uncles, Ron Delorme Jr., Jesse McKay III, Tony Delorme and John Lohnes. Honorary Bearers are Summer Littlewind, Britney Rainbow, Ray Ann McKay, Corby McKay, Laurie Laurens, John and Ramona Chaske, Jann Belanus, Alyssa Tofsrud, Murrey McKay, Dana Yankton Sr. and Delmer Youngbird Jr., Ann Carlson Center and all Tanner’s Doctors at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Tanner was born on February 24, 2013, to Antoinette Nelson. Tanner was a healthy boy until he was 9 months old when he was faced with several health issues. Tanner received care at Gillette Children’s Specialty Hospital in St. Paul, MN, until the time of his death. Tanner also was enrolled in the Ann Carlson Center where he received therapy. He also received therapy with Altru Clinic in Devils Lake and Grand Forks. Tanner enjoyed being sung to and read to. Tanner couldn’t play normally with his siblings or other people who loved to interact with him, but he loved the sound of those who loved him. Tanner would lighten up to the voice of his favorite therapist, Jann Belanus. He would enjoy his talks, stories and songs with her. In 2016, Craig became a big part of Tanner’s life. Tanner would smile his biggest smile to the sound of Craig. Tanner’s favorite movies were “Finding Dory”, “Finding Nemo” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. His favorite songs were “The Bumble Bee” and “ABC”. Tanner had the biggest smile and the greatest laugh. Tanner is survived by his mother Antionette; father Craig; brother, Randall “Lil Man”; sisters, Veronica and Amelia; step-brothers, Joshua, Trevor and Riley; step-sister, Stacey; great-grandmother Vivian Lohnes; grandparents Francine (Riley) Delorme, Christopher (Carolyn) Nelson and Frank (Arlene) de la Paz; aunts Mary (Ryan) McKay, Shacqouia (Shaquille) Delorme, Brandy Nelson and Amanda Nelson; uncles, Chris Nelson Jr. (Krissy), James Lohnes, Corwin John Nelson and Dylan Nelson; great-uncles Ron Delorme, Tony Delorme, Jesse McKay III and John Lohnes; great-aunts Rena Lohnes, Sheila Delorme and Kristy Lohnes, other family, the Jerome family, the Longie family; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Tanner was welcomed to the Spirit World by his aunts Dolly Mae Delorme and Felicia Delorme; uncle Joquin de la Paz; great-aunt Rebecca Longie and great-grandparents Jesse McKay Jr. and John Nelson and other members of the Nelson family and Lohnes family Tanner is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
