Laura Huber (Huffman), age 97, died peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.
Celebration of life will be held Friday, February 17, at 6 p.m. at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place Saturday, February 18, at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, Devils Lake, ND. Laura was born February 11, 1920, to Renaldo B. and Nellie Huffman on their dairy farm in Minnewaukan, ND.  She attended elementary and high school across the road from the farm.  She excelled academically and enjoyed singing in a girls’ quartet. Laura married John J. Huber in 1937, and they made their home in Devils Lake for sixty years.  Laura and John had one daughter, Marlene, who remained the lifelong apple of their eyes.  Laura devoted herself to home and family life and worked as a manager for the Great Northern Hotel and Sears Catalogue Sales.  She was also a committed caregiver for her parents, a brother, and her husband. People considered themselves fortunate to be entertained by Laura and John, the consummate hosts, especially at their lake cottage on Devils Lake, built for them by Laura’s father.  Laura encouraged John to pick up a hunting rifle with her, just as John encouraged Laura to pick up a golf club with him.  Their biggest delight was spending time with their daughter’s family, celebrating the holidays, attending their grandchildren’s activities, and finding any excuse for a party.  That became easier when Laura and John moved to Fargo in 1997.  Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren especially delighted Laura.  She first lovingly cradled them as babies; later they would graciously serve up her evening Windsor and water. Laura is survived by her daughter, Marlene Christenson of Fargo; grandchildren Mona Christenson Barz of Nashville, TN, and Mark Christenson of Grand Forks, ND; son-in-law Lucho (Marlene) Espejo of Fargo; great-grandchildren Natalia, Juan, Luis, and Danny Espejo, Alyssa (Luke) Wentz, Jessica (Evan) Bollinger, and Simon and Lucy Barz; and great-great-grandchildren Tariq Espejo, Theodore and Elliana Wentz.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, two brothers, son-in-law Boyd Christenson, and granddaughter Laura Christenson Espejo. Memorials are preferred to the Laura Christenson Espejo Social Justice Fund c/o The Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation, 409 7th Street South, Fargo, ND 58103.
