The lack of snow this winter has forced the organizers of the weekend’s ShiverFest activities to make a few changes in the schedule.
No sleigh rides
Although several alternatives were studied, it has forced the cancellation of the sleigh rides. Even putting wheels on the sleigh it was far too slippery and dangerous for the horses to try it.
No igloo building
Instead of igloo building the Boy Scouts will be doing some dutch oven cooking at Woodland Resort. Stop out and get some fresh, hot cobbler.
Ice Rally Cross/Races
The Ice Rally Cross and Snowmobile oval races will take place but in a new location. Take the road that goes south of the Holiday Inn Express, past the Southside neighborhood park, it goes right out onto the lake.
The kite flying will remain at Ackerman Acres.
This year, according to Suzie Baisch Kenner of Devils Lake Tourism office, the youth ice fishing tournament at Woodland Resort will take place closer to shore so participants and spectators can park in the resort parking lot and walk to the tournament site.
