  • Dorothy Jean (Stewart) LaFromboise 58, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Bottineau, ND and St. John, ND, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6 2014 after a two month battle with cancer.

  • Dorothy Jean (Stewart) LaFromboise 58, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Bottineau, ND and St. John, ND, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6 2014 after a two month battle with cancer.
    Services will be held for Dorothy at the St. John Community Center on Tuesday, August 12 at 11 am.
    Dorothy was born on March 12 1956 to Jessie (James) Stewart and Roy Stewart in Rolla, ND. Being raised in St. John and attending St. John School, receiving her GED in 1973.
    Dorothy married Carl LaFromboise  on February 22 1974 in Bottineau and shared 30 wonderful years together then later separating.
    Dorothy attended NDSU Bottineau in 1974 for one year, after raising four boys living in Bottineau, Towner, Montana, Gardena and Devils Lake,  she went back to college at Turtle Mountain Community College, Belcourt  and in 1991 earned an AA in Human Services. In 1993 she received her Bachelors  in Human Services  from Bottineau College. In 1995 she received an AAS in Business Administration from Minot University. She worked as a Social Worker from 1995-1997 at Little Shell Youth Center in Belcourt, 1997-2000 for Rolette County Alternative School at Dunseith Day School, 2000-2009 for Harmony House in Devils Lake and 2009 to present for the PATH Program in Devils Lake.   
    Dorothy's grandchildren were her priority, she was passionate about getting on the floor and playing with them. She enjoyed nature, family camping trips, picking mushrooms and berries, crafting, kayaking, rummages, auctions and karaoke. She had a huge heart and was always the first to give a hug, kind word, or help out.
    Dorothy dedicated her life as an advocate for children, first as a parent, then as a Social Worker.
    Dorothy will be lovingly missed by her sons, John Stewart (Melanie) of St. John, Chris LaFromboise (Samantha) of Bottineau, Brian LaFromboise of Oxford ME, and Mitch LaFromboise of Bottineau;  grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, Connor, Jewel, Josh, James. Cynthia, Kelby, Chris Jr., Jessica, Liam, Joey; great grandaughter, Olivia; companion, Les Schwartz; Siblings, Carol Bonn ( Richard) of Devils Lake, Ann Bonn of Wahpeton, ND, Eive Root of Puyallop WA, Alvin Stewart of Seattle WA, Clifford Stewart of Sandborn, ND Doug Stewart of St. John, Nancy Hanlan (Mike) of St. John, Jerry Stewart  of Fortuna and St. John and Kenny Stewart of Anchorage AK.
    Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harold, Glenn and Duane; one grandchild and a daughter in law, Tina Bechtold.
    Cremation services provided by Aamundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND.
