Those days on the gridiron are quickly approaching. There are several events coming for the Firebird football program.
There will be a mandatory Parents/Athlete meeting for any Devils Lake High School football players in grades 9-12. The meeting is set for Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school commons. The meeting for parents and athletes. Rules for the program, introductions of coaches and schedules will be presented. This meeting follows the parents concussion meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the commons.
-There will be a football booster meeting immediately following the parents/athletes meeting.
-Any athletes that would like to come out for football in grades 9-12, practices will begin 8 a.m. on Aug. 13 at the North Dakota School for the Deaf football field. Athletes that do not have their shoulder pads and helmets should come at 10:30 a.m. to pick up their equipment. Athletes need to bring t-shirts, shorts, tennis shoes, football cleats and a red practice jersey that day.
Also physicals, proof of insurance cards and concussion training sheets must be turned into the activities office or to Coach Schneider before you will be allowed to practice. Fees should also be paid to the activities office. You must have nine practices before you play in a game. Practice will last until approximately noon each day until school starts.
- The Devils Lake Firebird football team lift-a-thon will be held at 7 p.m. at the Sports center on Aug. 19. Grades 9-12 will participate. This is a very fun and worthwhile activity. Please come out and support the team.
-There will be a varsity football scrimmage on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. in Grand Forks. The scrimmage will involved including Grand Forks Central, Grand Forks Red River and Devils Lake. Each team will run offensive plays and defensive schemes against opposing teams. It will be a good gauge of where each team is at.
-The first varsity football game will be in Williston at 7 p.m. Aug. 29
