  • Three new teachers have been approved as hires at Devils Lake Public Schools.

  • Three new teachers have been approved as hires at Devils Lake Public Schools. At the July 21 regular meeting of the Devils Lake School Board, members moved to approve the hiring of Jolene Wahl, Cory Collison and Loren Nieuwsma for the 2014-2015 school year.
    Wahl, who has taught in the Bismarck Public School District during the past two school years, will teach fifth grade at Central Middle School. A graduate of the University of Mary, she has taught fourth and sixth grade in the past. Wahl replaces Diane Sommer.
    Collison has been hired as a science teacher at Central Middle School. A graduate of University of North Dakota, he has been a fifth grade teacher for the past seven years. Since 2008, he taught in Valier, Mont. He is replacing Patrick Gelhaus who has accepted a different position in the Devils Public School District.
    Nieuwsma has been approved as the speech and English instructor at Devils Lake High School. A graduate of the University of North Dakota, he served as the GEB Instructor at the ND State Penitentiary. Previously, Nieuwsma taught English in the New Rockford School District for five years
    The board also approved the recommendation to appoint two teachers to different position. Central Middle instructor Patrick Gelhaus will moved to the high school to teach science to grades 9-12. Megan Wasness, who was hired as a high school speech and English teacher this spring, will teach language arts at Central Middle School.
