  • Devils Lake legion closes out season at 11-16

    The season of the Devils Lake American Legion baseball team officially came to an end Thursday Casselton. Facing a lack of numbers, several injuries and a tough opponent, the Storm was unable to walk away with a win in the doubleheader on the road. Casselton earned a 10-0 win in the first game before edging their foes from the Lake Region 13-12 in the nightcap.

    The season of the Devils Lake American Legion baseball team officially came to an end Thursday Casselton. Facing a lack of numbers, several injuries and a tough opponent, the Storm was unable to walk away with a win in the doubleheader on the road. Casselton earned a 10-0 win in the first game before edging their foes from the Lake Region 13-12 in the nightcap.
    A tight 1-0 game after three innings, Casselton broke the action right open with four runs in the fourth. The home squad wrapped up the game in the bottom of the fifth with five runs to earn the 10-0 victory. Andrew Bertsch, Landen Hall and Ty Ness each added singles in the contest for the Storm.
    James Olson, who was the starting pitcher, finished with a double and a walk before leaving the game with an injury. The second game was back-and-forth with the Storm taking an early 7-0 lead.
    Casselton, however, battled back and put together an offensive attack late in the game earning a 13-12 victory.
    Leading Devils Lake offensively were Jordan Swanson, Landyn Swenson, Lance Anderson and Ness who added doubles. Cooper Knoke had two singles while Hall added a single.
    Swenson, Swanson, Ben Shepherd, Bertsch, Anderson, Hall and Ness each scored runs. Swanson, Swenson and Anderson pitched in the game. Devils Lake finished the season with a record of 11-16. The Storm will not be playing in any post-season tournaments
