After completing its first season in 20 years, the Lake Region State College baseball team is already looking forward to the next season. The Royal coaching staff has been busy recently announcing the signing of seven high school standouts.

“We are very excited about this group,” Joe Kittell, Lake Region State College baseball coach, stated. “Not only is it great that we signed good young men and baseball players, but so many are from the area.”

The following athletes have recently signed their letters of intent to join the Lake Region State College baseball program in the 2014-2015 season: Taylor Drobot, IF, Morden, Manitoba; Bryce Burnett, OF, Oxbow, Saskatchewan; Shane Buerkle, OF, New Town; Patrick Becker, Beulah, OF/P; Brandon Walsh, P, Thompson; Taylor Foss, P, Finley; Miguel Perez, Miami, Fla.

The newly signed players join Thompson catcher Ryne Dolleslager in the current recruiting class.

“I think these athletes will really help fill a need of depth on our baseball team,” Kittell pointed out. “We also found a number of quality pitchers that will help our pitching staff.”

With nine returning players off of this year and a strong recruiting class, the future looks bright for the Royals, Kittell stated.

“If we can build on the momentum we gained late this season and continue to get to grow, I think we will be greatly improved next season," he said.
