  • Another large crowd turned out Monday to hear Ashley Magner from the North Dakota and Minnesota Alzheimer’s Association discuss communication and behaviors often seen with the progression of the disease.
Her emphasis was that there is a reason behind all behaviors and the challenge is to discover what that might be, to respond to them in ways that make sense to them where they’re at and, when needed, to redirect the thought or action.
She recapped briefly the presentation she gave a month earlier “Understanding Alzheimer’s and dementia” and provided materials for caregivers and family members to learn more about associated topics.
She explained that North Dakota is the only state that provides Dementia Care Services for its residents. They offer trained care consultants in every county across the state and a 24/7 Information Helpline available for anyone with Alzheimer’s or related disorders and their families and care partners. That number is 800-272-3900 or online at alz.org/mnnd.
