The Lake Region State College softball team continues to stay busy. On Tuesday, the squad traveled to Bottineau for a doubleheader. The Royals lost both games of to Dakota College of Bottineau.
In game one, the Royals took an early lead after a solo homerun by Rebecca Gurski in the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Dakota College scored four runs in the inning with two outs, only two of them earned.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, they scored five runs on five hits, and three errors to end the game on the eight-run rule. Breanne Heinrichs pitched the five innings giving up 10 hits, on four walks, and one strike out.
For the Royals, Samone Motley and Brianne Hunt had the only other hits besides Rebecca’s HR. In game two, Dakota College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after one inning and lead 11-2 after four innings but the Royals came back in the 5th scoring four runs.
But in the bottom of the 5th, Dakota College scored three runs with two outs to end the game with a score of 14-6. Jenny Mertens had a solo homerun for the Royals, Brianne Hunt had two hits, Samone Motley, Rebecca Gurski, and Morgan Titus each had one. Morgan Titus pitched the game giving up 14 runs on 15 hits, with four walks and four strikeouts.
“We just couldn’t close out the innings and get that big play to stop their big innings. We had a great effort by the ladies and they never gave up,” Lake Region State College softball coach Kory Boehmer. “It is a testament to what they have done this year and the things that we have gone through so far.”
