  • Joan Stratman, 71, of Holdrege, Neb., formally of Devils Lake, N.D. died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Maricopa County Ariz.
The service was held Thursday, April 3 in Hildreth Neb. with Rev. Ted Carnahan officiating.
Joan was born December 9, 1942 to William E. and Louise Harms.  She attended Wilcox Public Schools in Wilcox Neb. where she enjoyed 4-H, volleyball and cheerleading.
Joan married Roger Stratman on December 3, 1961.  The couple was blessed with three children, Tonja, Tami and Todd. One of Joan's greatest joys was raising their three children with Roger by her side.
The family moved to several places throughout the years including Nebraska, the Dakotas and Minnesota.  Wherever Roger's job took the family Joan was always eager to create a warm home as she had a clever talent for decorating.
Joan and Roger made their main residence in Holdrege and wintered in Maricopa. They made frequent visits to North Dakota and Minnesota where they enjoyed visiting their grown children and grandchildren, Teri Jo, Tanner, Morgan and Ryan.  During their visits they proudly attended the grandchildren's sporting events.  What they couldn't be present for they faithfully watched online.
Joan took pride in her sewing projects, her love of decorating and shopping.  She loved to host parties and was known for preparing delicious food.
Her loving spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand was inspiring to family and friends.  Joan will greatly be missed.
Survivors include her husband Roger of 52 years; children, Tonja (Pat) Cunningham of Sand Lake Minn., Tami (Terry) Paine of Devils Lake, N.D., and Todd Stratman of Anoka Minn.; grandchildren, Teri Jo and Tanner Paine of Devils Lake, Morgan and Ryan Cunningham of Sand Lake; mother, Louise Harms of Wilcox, Neb.; siblings, William (Jeanne) Harms of Estes Park, Colo., Brent (Debbie) Harms of Wilcox, Shirley (Ron) Lush of Hildreth Neb.; brother-in-law, Gale (Eileen) Stratman of Maricopa Ariz., sister-in-law Marge Snodgrass of Mesa, Ariz.; her nieces and nephews; and other special family and friends.
