  • Sometimes you need to sit back and tip your cap to an opponent. No matter what the Lakota-Edmore girls basketball team Thursday evening in the opening round of the Class B Girls Basketball Tournament, Minot Bishop Ryan always had an answer. By kicking the game off with a furious 14-3 start, the Lions set the tempo and never looked back against a hard-noised Raider team.
Behind 25 points by Hannah Stewart and 22 points by Gabbie Bohl, Minot Bishop Ryan earned the 64-45 victory Thursday in the Fargo Dome. The Lions led 16-5 after one period and held a commanding 33-17 advantage at the half.
Despite falling short to the perennial power, the Raiders battled the entire game. In the second half, Lakota-Edmore kept pace with the impressive Minot Bishop Ryan squad. The strong start from their opponents was, however, just too much for the Region 4 champions. One key to success for the Lions was a long zone defense that gave Raider guards problems all night long.
Fallyn Freije led the Raiders with 19 points and nine rebounds. Shaye Ronningen had 10 points and three assists. Mary Haman and Montana Halberg had six points each for Lakota-Edmore.
The Raiders now look to finish out their season on a high note with a strong performance in the consolation round. Lakota-Edmore squares off against Watford City at 2:30 Friday.
