Gladys Martha (Grant) Smith, 92, went home to heaven on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at Towner County Medical Center, Cando, ND surrounded by her loving family.

Gladys was born on Dec. 10, 1930, in Belcourt, ND ,to Andrew and Emma (LaFountain) Grant. She attended Roussin Country School that was located next to her family’s land in Belcourt, ND. While growing up she found great joy going to barn dances and to the movies. On Oct. 4, 1949, Gladys married Walter Greenwood. Together they raised eight children: Lloyd, Michael, Delores, Linda, Mark, Gladys, Robert and Ronald. After Walter’s passing in 1970, Gladys later met and married Frank Smith in 1972. Together they lived in Egeland, ND where she resided until her passing. With her children and Frank she made many great memories taking road trips across the country. While on their trips they did various things such as petting buffalo, fishing, visiting the Pacific Ocean, Mount Rushmore, Old Faithful, and Walthill, Nebraska. After Frank’s passing in 1983, Gladys spent the remainder of her many years dedicated to being a loving caregiver to her many grandchildren.

As her family grew, she always enjoyed being around those she loved, whether it was playing card games, surprising others with visits, or attending baptisms, weddings, and graduations. She particularly enjoyed keeping up on soap operas such as Young and the Restless and celebrating holidays such as Christmas, New Years, and St. Anne’s Day.

Gladys felt so very blessed to have her family so close for all these years. We have memories to last a lifetime, a legacy of love to carry with us always.
