Jim Schiele is the blood drive coordinator and wants everyone to know that even if you have been turned away for low hemoglobin, which is an iron deficiency in the blood, that you can try again. It is normally a temporary condition.
Iron is best absorbed from animal foods like red meat, veal pork, chicken, turkey and seafood. Citrus fruits and drinks, fresh fruits and fresh or lightly cooked vegetables will help your body absorb iron. High caffeine items, such as tea, coffee and energy drinks make it hard for your body to absorb iron. It is always recommended to eat properly and get at least six hours of rest prior to blood donations.
Contact Schiele for an appointment to give, even if this is your first time. He can be reached at (701) 662-5633.
