  • DEVILS LAKE -- A cost free guide service, founded by veterans, for veterans.
That pretty much sums up the Wounded Warriors organization, a group motivated by the prospect of providing waterfowl hunting opportunities to vets that have been wounded serving our nation.
Established in 2009, the service began offering guide trips to disabled veterans, and the organization has only grown since then. Now, they're sponsoring their inaugural ice fishing tournament this weekend, an event hosted by Woodland Resort.
The fishing will be limited to Creel Bay and will feature in excess of 30 two-man teams, all of which will be competing for the potential grand prize: $10,000.
The tournament isn't to be confused with a derby-style tournament, such as the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department ice fishing competition, which is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 25 on Devils Lake.
The Wounded Warriors tournament will also offer a banquet dinner to all competitors following the day's fishing, as well as numerous ice fishing seminars and gear giveaways. The experience will also feature special guests that will speak about their service and sacrifice for our country.
It promises to be a memorable tournament for all involved.
Event organizer David Morse has indicated that proceeds raised from team entry fees ($100 per team) will go toward the planning and execution of future guide trips for wounded veterans.
