  • Woman dies in accident 1 mile south of Devils Lake

  • According to a report received from Sgt. Joseph Knowski of the North Dakota Highway Patrol a St. Michael woman was killed in a two vehicle accident that happened at 7:16 p.m. on Friday.

  • According to a report received from Sgt. Joseph Knowski of the North Dakota Highway Patrol a St. Michael woman was killed in a two vehicle accident that happened at 7:16 p.m. on Friday.
    Maxine Paul, 54, from St. Michael was a passenger in a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera driven by William Waanatan, 40, from Tokio.
    Waanatan was driving southbound on North Dakota highway 20 south coming out of Devils Lake when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rotated coutnerclockwise into the oncoming lane and was struck on the passenger side by a 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Chad Tollefson, 37, of Devils Lake. He was traveling northbound into Devils Lake on Highway 20.
    In Tollefson’s vehicle were passengers Hayley Tollefson, 15, Angela Rudnick, 14, Andrea Rudnick, 14, and Justice Littlewind, 16.
    Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder of the highway in the northbound lane.
    Paul was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital and Waanatan was air flighted to Grand Forks. All occupants of the Tollefson vehicle were treated and released.
    The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
