New Jersey ratifies the Constitution

The United States won their fight for independence but their government, The Articles of Confederation, wasn't working. The Constitution was written to fix what was wrong with The Articles but it needed the approval of 9 of the 13 states to become effective. New Jersey became the third state to ratify the Constitution on December 18, 1787.
