The Devils Lake wrestling team was defeated Tuesday night in Valley City, 54-21.
Once again, lack of sufficient squad depth led the Firebirds loss, with over half of Valley City's points coming via forfeiture (30).
Seniors Joey Good (7-4) and Kamron Matejcek (9-3) led the way for Devils Lake, both registering pins in their respective matches. Good pinned his opponent, Jared Undem, in less than two minutes, while Matejcek, who finished a team-best fourth at the Dan Unruh Invitational, pinned Jordan Magnuson in the second period to record his ninth victory of the season.
Austin Schall (3-1), Jace Estenson (3-6) and Colton McAllister (5-7) also registered team points for the Firebirds.
Schall defeated Reed Beckman by an 8-3 decision. McAllister won by a narrow 8-6 in his match against Valley City's Mason Bjornson. Estenson's match with Logan Erlandson needed overtime to sort things out, but Estenson came out on top in the 7-5 final score.
Devils Lake Wrestling will now head home for a few days before competing in Valley City again this Saturday for the Valley City Wrestling Tournament.
