BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of an adult in Belcourt on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation.
FBI spokesman Kyle Loven says the death is suspicious but won't say if anyone is in custody or release other details about the killing.
He does say investigators don't believe public safety is an issue.
KEYA Radio Program Manager Jarle Kvale says schools and some workplaces including the hospital in Belcourt closed Wednesday.
Elementary and high schools in Rugby about 50 miles away were locked down.
Superintendent Mike McNeff says it was precautionary and mainly involved locking and watching the doors until mid-afternoon when word came that there was no longer a threat.
Belcourt is northwest of Devils Lake near the Canadian border.
