Lake Region State Basketball has enjoyed a fine start to the 2013-14 campaign, but they’ve yet to be tested outside of their home building.
That changes this weekend.
Both the men’s and women’s team square off against identical opponents this weekend in Miles City, Mont. as they take on Miles City on Friday night, followed by twin match ups with Central Wyoming the next day.
Head coach Joe Kittell expects a difficult test from both teams, particularly Miles City, who is an athletic team playing in a deep, competitive region of the country.
“They’re gonna try and slow us down,” said Kittell, who preaches a fast, up-tempo style. “They’re gonna have a good crowd behind them, and it’s going to be a good test for us. We just have to make sure that we play our way and not theirs.”
On the other side of the aisle, Lady Royals head coach Duane Schwab also expects a difficult road trip, his team’s first stretch of games away from home this season.
Schwab insists that the Lady Royals (8-0) need to stay loose.
“This trip is different then just driving over to the Sports Center and getting loosened up,” Schwab said. “It’s different being away from home, but it’s like I tell my players: good teams have to figure out how to win on the road. That’s key.”
The Lady Royals take on Miles City at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, followed by the men’s team at 7:30 p.m. Then, it’s a quick turnaround for both teams as the women face Central Wyoming the following day at 1 p.m. with the men playing at 2 p.m.
