This week Boonville lost a committed community volunteer. Mike Magyar was an active member of the community. Mike was a member of Rotary and the Masonic Lodge. He served as Chamber president and was on the Boonville Tourism Commission. He was active in his church, serving as Deacon and on various church committees. Mike knew the importance of community involvement and volunteerism.
Sometimes we sit back and watch, hoping that things get done. Often when results aren't what we had hoped for we criticize and complain. The brave folks volunteer, they step up to the plate and work to get things accomplished, knowing that there may not be any accolades.
With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous to you, your family, and your community. If people never help each other and only care about themselves, the world becomes a crueler, sadder place. But when we volunteer our time, money, and talents, we help make the world a better, happier place.
Over a hundred people showed up on Sunday morning to search for Mike, many who had never even met him. They saw a need and put aside their plans to help someone in need. This was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much of his time and talent to the community. Our condolences go out to his family. Mike will be greatly missed by the Boonville community. Go Boonville.
