The Lake Region State College Lady Royal basketball team trounced Trinity Bible College to earn their third victory of the season and remain undefeated at 3-0.
The Lady Royals started off with a slow start. They led 14-9 with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half.
Trinity Bible College stuck with the Lady Royals for the most of the first half and only trailed 29-21 with 9:10 remaining in the half.
Rebecca Olson cut the Lady Royals lead to 36-26 with a three pointer but Lake Region would respond with a three pointer by My’Kale French to extend the lead to 39-26 with 5:20 remaining.
The Lady Royals finally got their offense going late in the first half and too a 41-28 lead when Jordyn Kirk went up for a tough layup. Kirk was fouled on the play but couldn’t connect for the  three point play.
With just under a minute remaining in the half, freshmen Rebecca Eberle went in strong for a tough two points which resulted in a foul. She missed the free throw but Sarah Schafer was there to pick up the rebound and make an easy bucket of her own to extend the Royals lead to 49-34.
Sarah Schafer added two more points with five seconds remaining when she connected on a baseline jumper to give the Lady Royals a 51-34 lead at the half.
“In the first half they were beating us off the dribble but we got that squared away at halftime and we ran the ball better in the second half,” said head coach Duane Schwab.
The second half saw the Lady Royals score the first nine points to take a 60-34 lead.
The Lions didn’t score their first field goal of the half until the five minute mark and couldn’t get anything going on offense.
Becca Scherr made a nifty move which led to an easy layup to extend the Lady Royals lead to 72-41 at the halfway mark of the second half.
The game was all but over at this point which gave everyone on the Lady Royals an opportunity to play.
Both teams played tough until the end which saw the Lady Royals coming out victors by a final of 94-59.
“I thought we rebounded well and had good defensive help in the second half,” said Schwab.
The Lady Royals will continue their homestand this weekend when they host the Royals Classic this weekend.
Lake Region will play Northern St. JV on Friday at the Sportscenter with a tip off time of 6:30 p.m.
