LRSC Women's Basketball expect another successful run in 2013-14.
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals are looking to put together another successful season under head coach Duane Schwab.
Schwab is entering his 25th season which will also be his final season.
Coach Schwab has a career record of 543-238 and is coming off of an impressive 24-8 2012-13 season which saw the Lady Royals finish second in the region.
LRSC will be returning seven players from last years team. Most of the sophomores on the team were fortunate enough to see quite a bit of playing time in their first year which will help them in the 2013-14 season.
Returning players for the Lady Royals include Jordyn Kirk, Sarah Schafer, Jonie Wipf, Becca Scherr, Ashley Knecht, My’Kale French, and Leslie Hairston.
This years team will have a nice mix of freshmen and sophomore.
Newcomers on the team are Kristie Mettler, Taylor Swanson, Rebecca Eberle, Sara Schwanke, Morgan Titus, and Samone Motley.
The Lady Royals have high expectations last year and are looking to win the Mon-Dak Conferenece.
The team isn’t the biggest one that Coach Schwab has ever coached but it is one of the quickest.
“We are an up tempo team. We run man to man pressure and want fast breaks,” said Coach Schwab.
Some of the returners that Coach Schwab praised included French, Schafer, and Scherr.
“My’Kale did a great job this summer on getting her body to where it should be,” said Schwab.
“Schafer and Scherr are both quick and can both shoot the three well,” added Schwab.
Freshmen that should have an opportunity to bring something to the table include Kristie Mettler and Sara Schwanke.
“Mettler is super quick and has a great vertical. Schwanke also has a great vertical and has a nice jumper,” said Schwab.
The team has been practicing since Oct. 1 with their first game of the season coming up this Saturday when they take on Turtle Mountain CC at home.
“I think we are going to have great quickness and I think we will be a pretty deep team.” said Schwab.
The Mon-Dak Conference has six teams in it and it sounds like the Lady Royals will be the favorite to win it.
It has been a long month of practice and the Lady Royals are looking forward to finally playing someone other than themselves.
Coach Schwab stated that he has a great group of kids who work hard.
It should be a fun season for the Lady Royals in Coach Schwab’s final season.
Look for both sophomores and freshmen to contribute to a successful season.
