The Devils Lake Lady Firebirds hosted the Fargo North Spartans on Tuesday night at the Sports Complex.
It was pink night at the Sports Center which saw the Lady Firebird players and coaches wear pink gear for warmups and the game. Fans also had plenty of pink on in support of breast cancer awareness month.
The Spartans looked solid in the first set and took a 16-9 lead before the Lady Firebirds fought hard for the next four points to make it a 16-13 game.
Devils Lake kept it close for most of the game but the Spartans dominated the last few points en route to a 25-16 victory.
The second game of the evening was the best of the evening. The Spartans took an early 10-7 lead but the Lady Firebirds fought back to win four of the next five points to tie it at 11-11.
The Lady Firebirds scored two of the next three points to take a 13-12 lead which was their first lead of the set.
The Spartans won the next four points to take a 16-13 lead before the Lady Firebirds tied it back up at 18-18.
The teams went back and fourth  through the next six points which tied it at 21-21.
Fargo North prevailed off of some Devils Lake mistakes to win the next four points which gave them a 25-21 victory to go up 2-0.
The Lady Firebirds got off to a quick start and took an early 2-0 lead. The slow start didn’t phase the Spartans as they went on to take a 13-8 lead.
The Spartans dominated the rest of the game and scored 12 of the next 13 points to win 25-9 and take a 3-0 sweep.
“We did do things better tonight than we have done in the past. Fargo North is a good team,” said head coach Warren Michael.
The next game for the Lady Firebirds will be this Saturday when they travel to Wahpeton.
“If we win at Wahpeton we should have a home play-in game and that’s big. If we don’t win at Wahpeton then we are traveling for a play-in game,” said Michael.
The next home game for the Lady Firebirds is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 31 when they host Fargo South at 7 p.m.
