The Lake Region State College Playmakers will present Steel Magnolias at 7:30 p.m. on October 23 – 26 at the Robert Fawcett Auditorium. Steel Magnolias, which became a popular and critically acclaimed movie in the 1980’s revolves around Truvy’s Beauty Parlor in a small parish in Louisiana.
Steel Magnolias is the story of a close-knit circle of friends whose lives come together there. The six women are unique and unforgettable. Truvy ‘s rule is that no one can cry in her salon unless she is crying too. Shelby, the bride to be whose signature color is “pink and pink,” and her mother M’Lynn, get their hair done at Truvy’s the morning of the wedding and argue over wedding details. Annelle Depuy the new glamour technician, has a mysterious past as she is not sure if she is married or not. Clairee, the former mayor’s wife is sharp tongued and loves to harass the sour tempered Ouiser who claims she’s not crazy, she has just been in a bad mood for forty years. These “steel magnolias” make us laugh and cry as the realities of their lives in tiny Chiquapin Parish unfolds.
Cast members include Breanna Frehlich, Ashley Nichelson, Hannah Steffan, Katie Traynor, Lyndi Needham and Susie Pederson. The play is directed by Jeanette Kenner.
