  • DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — More than 20 anglers on North Dakota's Devils Lake found out recently what happens when they get caught with too many walleyes.
The Forum reports  that game wardens for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department seized 136 walleyes on the lake Aug. 23 and Aug. 24 in a targeted enforcement effort.
The wardens issued 29 citations, writing 24 of those tickets to anglers who kept more than their daily limit.
Anglers can keep five walleyes daily on Devils Lake, with a possession limit of 10.
Robert Timian, chief game warden for the Game and Fish Department, says officials had heard complaints that some anglers were double-dipping. That's a practice that involves catching a limit, taking them to shore and then returning to catch and keep more fish.
