The Lake Region State College Royals volleyball team went a perfect 3-3 on Wednesday in Thief River Falls, MN.
The first game of the day was against Rainy River which went a thrilling five sets. The Royals defeated Rainy River in the first game by a score of 25-8 which made it seem like it was going to be a quick three games.
Rainy River turned things around in the second game and looked like a whole different team. They went on to win game two by a score of 25-17.
The Royals struggled once again in the third game and fell 25-15 to go down two sets to one.
The fourth game was a blowout in favor of the Royals as they went on to win 25-13.
The fifth and final game saw the Royals dominate by a score of 15-8 to earn the hard fought 3-2 victory.
Freshmen Kristie Mettler led the team with 13 digs and three aces.
Josie Knowski led the team with 18 assists while Sara Schwanke had 15.
The second game of the day was just as thrilling as this one went five sets as well.
The Royals took on Northland and fell in the first game 25-18.
The second game saw the Royals play much better as they went on to win 25-20. Northland won a close third game 25-21 to go up two sets to one.
Lake Region fought hard in the next two sets. They won game four 25-21 and the fifth game by a score 18-16 to improve to 2-0 on the day.
Megan Beattie led the team with 44 digs. Abbey Braaten had 42 and Rachel Frelich ended the game with 30.
Bratten led the team with 17 kills while Maddi Johnston had 16.
Sara Schwanke had 34 assists which was the best on the team during game two.
In their third and final game of the day, the Royals picked up a 2-0 win over the Mayville JV.
The Royals won the first game 25-19 and the second game 25-16. Leading the team in digs was Kristie Mettler with 24 and Maddi Johnston with 17.
Meghan Jorgenson led the team with 12 kills while Schwanke was second on the team with five.
The Lake Region State College Royals already have as many wins as last season. They are 4-0 and travel to Bismarck this weekend for the Mystic Labor Day Classic.
