The Devils Lake Firebirds football team began their season on Wednesday morning with their first practice of the season.
The first day is more about conditioning than anything. The team won't have a whole lot of size this season so it is important that they utilize their speed.
"I think the first day went really good. Conditioning is a big deal for us because we don't have a lot of size and need to be quick," said senior O-line/D-linemen Spencer Turck.
The Firebirds will have five more two-a-day practices before they switch over to the traditional afternoon practice for the rest of the year.
Up first for the team will be a scrimmage in Grand Forks on Saturday August 24. This will be a nice warmup for the team before they take the field against Williston on August 30 at home.
"We just need to get in shape and memorize our playbooks to make sure we're ready for the scrimmage," added Turck.
