Dancers from Miki’s School of Dance took top awards at the Midwest Starz Dance Competition held in Fargo.
Dancers from Miki’s School of Dance took top awards at the Midwest Starz Dance Competition held in Fargo. There were 15 Dance Studios from North Dakota, Minnesota, Manitoba, and Ontario competing. There were 350 different dance routines in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, acro, song and dance, broadway, hip hop, and novelty/character. The judges were Tina Koenig, from Otsego, Minn., Jeff Quast from Minneapolis, and Tinia Moudler from Minneapolis.
Overall awards were won by Miki’s Dancers. In the Pre-teen Division:“Coffee In A Cardboard Cup” (Parker Hanson, Anna Janssen, Paige Larson, Kayla Sobolik), a variety style dance won 1st place overall Small Group, a Platinum Award (high 1st) and a Judges Choice for “High Energy Award.”
The same group of dancers earned third Overall and a High Gold (First) with a tap routine “Jump Shout Boogie.”
In the solo division Anna Janssen earned a second place Overall High Score solo, a Platinum and a First place trophy for her tap dance “Rug Cutter.”
Paige Larson was awarded a High Gold for her character solo “I Don’t Want to Show Off.” This group of four were strong contestants and top scorers in all entries.
The Bizzy Dizzy Dancers had two routines in the pre-teen division. Makenna Baeth received a Judges Choice award “Super Sound Award” for her clean and dynamic tap sounds. She received a High Gold and third place in the pre-teen tap division. “Let’s Live It Up” a tap duo with Erin Clementich and Abbey Dahl earned a High Gold Award.
In the Mini Dancer Division, Sam Enget was selected as a “Stand Out Dancer” for his performance of the Chef in “Ma Maison.” “Ma Maison” placed second Overall small group and received a High Gold Trophy.
Small Fry Dancers were Cassandra Christensen, Haley Duncan, Sam Enget, Gabby Hanson, Catherine Janssen, Hannah Ripplinger, Isabelle Thompson, Brooke Wayman.
Gabby Hanson placed third Overall High Score Solo, received a High Gold trophy and first place in her division with her variety dance “Jazz Baby.”
“Downtown” with Erin Clementich, Abbey Dahl, Emma Hoover, a jazz trio, also placed third Overall High Score duo/trio Mini, and received a High Gold.
“Yankee Doodle” a tap dance of Small Fry and Bizzy Dizzy Dancers earned a fifth place overall large group trophy, second place tap award and a High Gold placement trophy.
Cassandra Christensen received a High Gold placement award for her jazz solo and a second place jazz award for “Up Up Up.”
“Why Did You Dye Your Hair Chartruese?” a novelty Bizzy Dizzy dance with Makenna Baeth, Abbey Dahl, Erin Clementich, Emma Hoover, Weslie Langton) earned a Gold Award, and Second place mini award.
