Two of Devils Lakes own will be playing in Saturday’s annual Shrine football game held at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Saturday.
Chase Johnson and Shane Ebertz were both selected for the 11 man East roster.
Both players were All-EDC last season with Johnson being selected as a second team all-state linebacker as well.
Johnson and Ebertz will be seniors this fall and are looking forward to getting an early jump on the season.
“It should help me get back in the swing of things and I’m looking forward to playing with a team again,” said Johnson.
The Shrine football game is an opportunity for some of the best players in the state to show off their talent.
Johnson and Ebertz both said that the Shrine game has been one of their goals since being underclassmen.
Saturday’s game will be far from normal for Johnson and Ebertz as they will be playing with so many unfamilar faces.
“It will be fun meeting and playing with people who I normally play against,” said Ebertz.
The West has had a reputation of beating the East in recent years which is motivation for Johnson.
“It will be really competitive and I think we will have a good team,” said Johnson.
The East team practiced at Mayville State throughout the week in preparation for Saturday’s game.
Johnson and Ebertz are both excited for this opportunity and said their main goal is to have fun, improve, and play hard.
Saturday’s game is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. For more information visit www.ndshrinebowl.com.
