  • Florine P. Rohn, 86 of Grand Forks, N.D. passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 in 4000 Valley Square in Grand Forks.
    Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at the Historic Norman Funeral Home-Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday with a 7 p.m. prayer service in the funeral chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service in the funeral chapel on Tuesday. Burial will be on Wednesday, July 10 in Alsen Cemetery, Alsen, N.D.
    Florine Pearl Towers was born January 25, 1925 in Calvin, N.D., the daughter of Earl and Pearl (Weiner) Towers. She attended the local rural schools and graduated from Langdon High School, Langdon, N.D. in 1946.  Following graduation, Florine obtained a North Dakota Teaching Certificate and taught in a one room school house in rural North Dakota.  Florine married John Rohn on June 2, 1950 in the Swiss Mennonite Church, Alsen.  Following their marriage, they resided in Alsen where Florine taught kindergarten. She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education at Mayville State Teachers College, Mayville, N.D. and a Masters Degree in Education and Administration from the University of North Dakota, Grand Fork. She taught in the Starkweather, Edmore, Esmond, Munich and Bisbee-Egland North Dakota School Districts. She taught over 30 years in the Lake Region area of North Dakota and supervised an independent daycare center at The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Starkweather, N.D. At the age of 70, Florine began working as an instructor with the Head Start program in Devils Lake, ND.  She continued teaching until she and John moved to Grand Forks in 1999.  John preceded her in death on April 2, 2004.  She enjoyed life long learning, reading and gardening.  She deeply loved children of all ages, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    She is survived by her daughter, Lynette (Gregory) Norman; their children, Lee Norman, Kyle Norman, all of Grand Forks, Katie (Frank) Mendez, Goshen, Ind.; a son, Steve Rohn, Starkweather; his children, Nicole Rohn, Brooke Rohn, both of Devils Lake, N.D.; her sisters, Violet Eickenbrock, Doris Ryan, both of Langdon; brothers, Edwin (Ruth) Towers, Columbus, OH, Ken (Gloria) Towers, Grand Forks, Daryl (Judy) Towers, Salem, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Ava Mendez, Adrian Mendez; Kynsi Rohn; many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, John; infant grandson, Thomas Norman; infant great-grandson, Donovan; her parents; sisters, Beaulah Stokke, Beverly Towers and a brother, Delwyn Towers.
    Florine’s family wish to thank and express their gratitude to the staff of Heartland Unit, 4000 Valley Square for the exceptional care and love they gave to her.
