Special recognition was presented to the 1969-1970s men’s basketball team from Lake Region State College during the LRSC Booster Club Golf Scramble held earlier this month on July 7.

The 1969-1970 men’s basketball team were MonDak Conference champions that year – the first regular season MonDak Conference men’s basketball title in LRSC history. The team had a 13-1 regular season record.

A banner recognizing that team and its accomplishments was unveiled to be hung in the LRSC gymnasium.

Coach of the Royals team that year was John Burckhard. Members of that team included Jim “Jersey” Clark, Gary Olufson, Dave Johnson, Terry Ellingson, Gary Schill, John Mahoney, Mark Krebsbach, Dave Nordhaugen, Irvin Troftgruben, Bryan Britsch, Rod Reisnouer, Allen Hoverson, and Kent Tesch.

Many of the players were on campus for a tour and to see their team banner.

During the recognition of the team, Jim “Jersey” Clark was also inducted into the LRSC Hall of Fame.

Clark is the 8th all-time scorer at LRSC with 1,083 points and he was the first LRSC player to reach 1,000 points.

He led the MonDak in scoring during his freshman season with 22.8 points per game, which is currently 8th in all-time single scoring average at LRSC. Clark scored 20.6 points per game his sophomore year which is 17th all-time in single season scoring average. This gave him a career average of 21.6 points per game.

Clark was selected for the MonDak All Conference team in 1968-1969 and 1969-1970 seasons. He was All Region 13 team for both of those seasons.
