The Fargo North Spartans came out swinging on Friday night and lit up the scoreboard quick.
The Spartans tallied three quick runs in the first inning followed by another four in the second inning to take an early 7-0 lead. The Firebirds played tough, but it seemed like nothing was going their way.
The Spartans earned one more run in the third and three more in the fourth inning to go up 11-0 on the Firebirds. Devils Lake couldn't get on the board and this game was over after five innings due to the mercy rule with the Spartans taking game one by a final of 11-0.
The second game of the evening was a much better outing for the Firebirds. They played well throughout the entire game, excluding one inning which cost them the game.
The Firebirds scored two runs in the first inning to make it a 2-0 game. This was huge considering the Firebirds didn't score at al in the first game.
Both teams played great baseball the rest of the way and it remained a 2-0 lead for the Firebirds going into the sixth inning. Fargo North swung at will and seemed to hit everything thrown at them.
The Spartans put on quite the rally and took a 6-2 lead with an inning and a half remaining. The Firebirds weren't able to produce any more runs and fell to the Spartans by a 6-2 final.
