  • Lake Region State College head women's basketball coach Duane Schwab has been a busy man and is already preparing for next season.
Schwab has announced that at least four players have committed to the team thus far. The Devils Lake Journal will run a biography of each player over the next few days to help the community get to know the incoming student athletes a little better.
The first player we will talk about is Sara Schwanke. Schwnke will be coming to Devils Lake from Maddock High School where she averaged 14.8 points per game on the Benson County basketball team. She also averaged 3.4 assists, six rebounds, and 2.5 steals a  game as well.
Schwanke, who is 5'8”, was All-District and All-State. Not only was Schwanke a successful basketball player, but she was also an outstanding athlete in volleyball and track and field.
Schwanke helped her 4x800 relay team win state titles in 2008 and 2010. Schwanke will be busy this fall because she has also announced that she will be playing volleyball for the Royals.
During her high school volleyball career Schwanke earned All-District tournament team, had 1,000 career kills, and was named her teams most valuable player.
