    It was members of the AMVETS and they conducted a 21 gun salute at the corner of Fourth Street and Sixth Avenue during the opening ceremonies of their convention held this weekend in Devils Lake.
    Representatives from throughout the state attended the events which ended with the awards banquet Saturday night in the KC Hall.
    The event was emceed by Devils Lake Fire Chief Jim Moe who informed the crowd that Devils Lake was in the process of establishing its own AMVETS post, although it was not yet established.
    Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson welcomed the vets and talked about his enthusiasm for the new vets clinic which will be established in Devils Lake before the year is out.
    A number of awards were presented during the ceremonies including one for Jerry Fjeld who was instrumental in planning the weekend’s festivities.
