  • “The Follies” will be presented by Miki’s School of Dance on Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. at the Robert Fawcett Auditorium LRSC.
“Follies” is the story of a famous precision dance troupe from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. The story is similar to the origins of the Rockettes of  Radio City. The producer/director, Maxie Ford (Rich Johnson) sends out invitations to the former performers to attend the final performance of “The Follies.”
The show begins, as always with the sweet crooning of vocalist,  Buddy (Peter Foss) as the show girls make their dramatic entrance down the stairs and into the theatre. The showgirls reminisce about the audition, the early routines, friends, touring, and vaudeville. The show ends with “the finale” from the 1949 “Follies.” It is a huge tap number involving the precision of hundreds of feet to “Sing, Sing, Sing.” It is an exciting show with a lot of talent and energy.
Beth MacDonald, daughter of Darin and Stacy MacDonald is a senior dancer this year. She has studied dance with Miki since the age of 5. Beth has danced on the Competition Teams for 10 years. This year she did a unique modern solo to “Bird” in a heavy Horton style. Beth and Hannah Steffen also performed a fun duo to “Dance Marathon 1942.”
This dance is a spoof on the old marathon dance contests which would last for 30 days or until the last dancer dropped from exhaustion. At every competition they placed at the top of their division and they won judges choice awards, entertainment awards and 1st place trophies.  The piece was choreographed by Bridget Noltimier. When Beth isn’t dancing she can be found shooting her gun at the range. She has been shooting for 8 years and won many shooting awards. Beth plans to attend UND next year and study psychology or social work.
“The Follies “will be an event with many kinds of dance styles and ages of performers. The performers range in age from 3 to 66. The show is like an old fashioned variety with acts to suit a wide variety of tastes. “The Follies” is directed by Miki Noltimier and assisted by Kinsey Malarkey, Neslie Christofferson, Sadie Hefta and Sabrina Rossow. Admission at the door $5.00 and $7.00
