This dramatic scene took place Thursday north of Devils Lake between what is known as the Peterson Road (or the bypass) and the city dump grounds.
According to Devils Lake Rural Fire Chief Lee Gessner, spring is a good time to burn off the dead, dry plants from fields. He emphasized the importance of keeping an eye on what you’re burning and as a courtesty asks that you call the LEC at 662-5323 and let them know where the burn is to be located. Then if someone calls it in as a fire, the authorities will know it is a controlled burn.
Gessner stressed caution when the winds are high like they are predicted to be today.
